Comments by Bimal Jalan
Chair: Arjun Sengupta

Date: 4th September, Saturday, 6-8 pm
Location: Main Auditorium, India International Center, New Delhi

In this lecture the speaker will draw on his experience in academe, and government and the world of politics to speak on the interface between economic theory and policymaking. Using illustrative examples from diverse topics, ranging from the management of inflation and the role of monetary policy to labour regulatory reforms and the market for foodgrains--he will argue that there are large gains to be made if politicians are willing to make room for scientific knowledge and professional economists for commonsense.
